Volunteer at Openhouse with Mon Ami

Openhouse has partnered with Mon Ami, a company specializing in coordinating companionship and assistance for seniors. Volunteers can use Mon Ami’s app to schedule calls with isolated LGBTQ seniors that we refer, coordinate grocery runs, and even receive reimbursements for essential items via PayPal.

Together is Better

To volunteer, sign up here (mark you were referred by Openhouse)!

What we’re offering together:

  • Friendly Calls – Openhouse and Mon Ami will match seniors with volunteer callers – and not just a random caller each time! Our volunteers are here to build meaningful relationships, a beautiful opportunity in a time of crisis.
  • Essential Errands – Volunteers will get groceries, pick up prescriptions, mail important documents, and more while following Mon Ami guidelines to protect public health.
  • App Support for Volunteers – All of this will be coordinated by Mon Ami’s proprietary technology which keeps everyone’s identities safe, manages scheduling, and handles reimbursement for volunteers.

Friendly Visitors

Are you interested in helping to keep LGBTQ seniors in our community-engaged, and thriving in the city and community they helped to create? Get involved in the Openhouse Friendly Visitor program!

Openhouse works to center the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQ elders by providing opportunities to make social connections and build community. Through the Openhouse Friendly Visitor program, LGBTQ seniors are matched with queer-and trans-identified folks and allies of different ages to receive ongoing social and emotional support such as taking walks, sharing stories, or just connecting about shared interests. These activities can make a big difference in the lives of LGBTQ seniors seeking stronger community connections.

Being an Openhouse Community Member means building community across generations. Friendly visitors of all ages are interested in cultivating deep and enriching friendships with LGBTQ seniors. These friendships can take shape in many forms- going on walks, museum visits, sharing stories over coffee, or simply connecting over shared interests! Volunteers help provide companionship, emotional support, and some practical assistance to foster connections to our community.
